“King of Anything” shows how some men give other men a bad name

4 min read

Men and women, do you see yourselves in King of Everything?

If man who identifies as a “nice guy” thinks a date went well and then the woman isn’t interested in a second date, there’s from what I’ve read they think perhaps she was just in it for the free food or…I don’t know, whatever. They are wrong.

It’s almost never for the free food. For 99% of women, the value of her time is higher than the price of a few beers. If you elect to do a four course meal on your first date, that’s on you, but otherwise if you take into account the money she spent on her Uber outweighs your out of pocket costs.

This song is not always why she’s just not that into you, but I’d take it to heart.

The best line in my opinion is:

“You sound so innocent, all full of good intent

Swear you know best

But you expect me to jump up on board with you

And ride off into your delusional sunset”

So I’ll ask people of all stripes. Which line resonates most with you. Have you ever been the woman singing? Have you ever been the man in the hat?

If you’ve been the woman singing, me too. Men like that make me want to claw out my eyes. I think I’ve underindexed on these types of date solely because back in the day I was so polarizing to “nice” guys that they self-selected out. A strategy that also has it pros and cons.

I am personally a little less nice girl like Sarah Bareilles and a little more Trouble by Pink. Basically I’m like Most Girls.

Now, this video is not all men. I married a man, I have a lot of friends who are men, I am not a misandrist.

But if you are this man, don’t blame women. Just stop being this man. If you’re not sure if you are this man or not, ask a female friend. If you have no female friends, you are probably this man. Hopefully your fellow men will let you know.

But that’s ok! Listen to more songs. You can change. The first step is to try.
