Books are a great way for nerds to connect. I connected with my husband by our shared bonding over Brandon Sanderson books (via OkCupid, a hundred million years ago).
If you are in the business of attracting the attention of nerds in IRL, drag a book everywhere, and start conversations with people who are reading books everywhere.
Particularly bars. Virtually every person in a bar with a book is, in my opinion, opening themselves to conversation.
Kindles work too – less of a cool factor, but theq uestion “What are you readding” is an even easier opening.
Book lovers vibe with book lovers. It’s the entry-level drug of being friendly: a book gives you a topic and a green light, so an approach isn’t really an approach. If there’s no spark, no harm – you were just talking books. No sting of full-on rejection.
f there is a spark, them boom! You’ve succeessful executed a most excellent meet cute.
Actual mileage may vary, but with enough at-bats, you absolutely might find a hit.
